Critical Speed Solutions

Critical speed problems are related to shaft diameter, bearing centres, impeller mass, distance of impeller mass from the nearest bearing.

First try increasing the shaft diameter (at the impeller for centre hung impellers).

If that causes a bearing problem then try the following:

Shorten the distance between the bearings for overhung fans.

For overhung applications try using a small roller bearing at the drive end and a ball or Carb bearing at the impeller end (fix the drive end).

Shorten the distance between the impeller end bearing and the impeller (if practical - leave room for any seals)
